Bathroom Feet

I am an American, so I don’t take showers like Thais do: three times a day. Nor do I take showers like Europeans: three times a week, on a good week. I like to take one shower per day.

I’m not proud of being American. What can you say about a country where they sentence a 79-year-old nun to jail? Except: she probably deserves it.

But now, even though I take a shower every morning, Poo is pressuring me to take a shower in the evening, too. At first, I thought it was ridiculous, but lately I have been looking at my footprints. I wear sandals (Chacos, actually). I take them off before I walk into the house in the evening. But when I walk into the bathroom with my bare feet, the dirt and grime from Bangkok reappears, on the puddled floor of our family’s bathroom. It’s disgusting.

In Asia, our bathroom floors are wet. I grew up with dry (and probably germ-ridden) bathroom floors. I like this system better, but I am finding it difficult to adjust.
