Bump & Grind

All is good. The new philosophy: work hard and say nice things to the students who work hard at mathematics seems to be working well.

I don't punish students, and I wonder about the teachers who used to punish me: did you think you would make me a better citizen? WRONG!

The Year 10s are loving their math classes. Sometimes I sympathize with that high school dropout who told me: I used to do my work, but the teacher would never leave me alone! So I wander around the room with a cricket bat, and try to leave the students alone, but sometimes I get excited. So, to put them at ease, I leave the classroom.

Today I wandered over to Mr. Barry's Year 10 class. The students were focused and learning mathematics. But one student had the lyrics to some ridiculous pop/rap song displayed prominently on her computer. She was doing math enthusiatically, but I looked at her computer: "bump & grind, baby, bump and grind! I wanna bump ya', I wanna grind ya', I wanna be inside ya' . . . "

"Do you really need the lyrics to Bump & Grind to do mathematics?" I asked her.

She just laughed and clicked off the website.
