Cram School

Poo is enrolling Thun for more “extra school”, or, as our Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese friends endearingly call it: “cram school.”

He already does “extra school” every day after regular school, but Poo wanted him there on Saturdays. “I want him learning English faster. What do you think?” she asked me.

I thought about it and declared, “Mathematics is more important than English! That is my only opinion.”

“OK,” she said, and changed her plans. Now the poor kid has to go to cram school every Saturday: math & science from 9:00 to 12:00 and English from 1:00 to 4:00. Funny thing is: he loves it!

As for Jason, I’m keeping him out of school as long as possible. I am becoming less and less enamored with “School”, a euphemism for stress, competition, brainwashing, peer pressure, conformity, work, bullying (especially from teachers & admin) and a mad rat race for university places. I could go on, but urban dictionary makes the point more eloquently.
