Resolution Free

The New Year has arrived. I think I experienced two or three New Year's Eves. We kept flying west from Austalia to Thailand, right about midnight. Eventually, the plane outraced the spinning Earth and we arrived in Bangkok at 10:30 PM.

There is nothing exciting about a New Year's Eve on a Thai Airways flight: no firecrackers, no kissing, not even drinking. Fortunately, I had a row of three seats to myself, so I could pretend to sleep through it. Long flights are much easier for me these days, because I play chess against Kasparov's computer game and lose. When that gets boring, I play backgammon and win.

I don't get too excited about New Year's anymore. There's no point in making the same old resolutions: be nice to Poo, stay out of shopping malls, don't think bad thoughts about people, etc., because I never keep them. I have given up on self-improvement, because I just don't have the self-discipline to do what I know needs to be done. Also, I take a look at those losers reading self-improvement books and think, "I don't what to be like that!"

This year I will be Resolution-Free, so I can at least avoid the disappointment of not being able to keep my resolutions.
