Miss First Principles

We have good students here. For example, the Year 11s are studying Calculus.

First I taught them Differentiation from First Principles. Each problem takes about ten minutes, so I gave them three homework problems. The next day I asked "was the homework OK?" and they responded:

"Fine, fine, fine."

Then I taught them the power rule. Each problem takes about five seconds, so I gave them fifty homework problems. The next day I asked "was the homework OK?"

"NO!" shouted Steffi angrily, "I was up to 03:00 doing your
homework, and I'm still not finished."

I looked at her notebook and she had done every problem by first principles!
