The History Channel

Nothing funny happened yesterday. It was one of those dreary days. The usually sparky Year 10s were practically comatose. I tried to lecture them about the scalar product but the old-fashioned method was not working; they needed something more modern, so I steered them towards the wiki. However, at 7:45 they can do nothing but stare at their tablets, read their emails, surf the net, and pretend they’re working. When I saw one of them laughing at his computer screen I said, “what is so amusing? what are you looking at?’

He replied, “Uhhh, um, oh, uh, nuthin’.”

“Surely you’re looking at something," I said, "something made you laugh, nudge the person next to you, and point to your computer screen.”

“Uhhh, um, oh, uh, oh that. I was just pointing out that my email doesn’t work with Firefox but it does work with Internet Explorer.”

Precisely how stupid do the students think we are? DON’T ANSWER THAT!

The Year 12s were sleepy (as always), the Year 11s fretting about grades (as always), and only the Year 9s had some life. One was crying and most were laughing. It was difficult to get them settle down and study math, but as they point out every day, “we’ve already had our final exam, so why do we have to study?”

To quote MCBanditt, “this ain’t the way it’s supposed to be.” Grades, grades, grades. All they care about is grades. Surely there must be more to life than amassing points. It starts young and continues through university. Then, in the Big Game of Life, they start counting frequent flyer miles and dollars in the bank. What about relationships? Husbands and wives are people you trade points with. Friends, neighbors, and teachers are people you wave at while collecting points. And mathematics or poetry? Forget it! They’re so passé they belong on the History Channel.

Stop the world, I want to get off.

So true...
But, even though we say that this is not how life should be, we should really ask ourselves how can we change it and still manage to live the comfortable life that we wish to.

There is more to life then just grades and money, and we should also pay attention to our social life, because love is what remains when everything else is gone.

Yet, in this world of ours, if you bring your wife to work everyday, and pay more attention to her, then basically we can just forget about keeping our job and earning any money!
