I alway miss "my American family" but I never miss America.
Except Tuesday. It's going to be special.
I have very little hope for a country that chose Ronald Raygun as the greatest American ever, but Obama is pretty cool. He made a very smart choice in his 20s. He decided that he was black, and that he would stand with black people in America. He married Michelle and joined a black church. Cynics will say that he was just being an opportunist, but I think it came from the heart. His mother was white and from Kansas, his absentee father was Kenyan, his sister was half-Indonesian, and he needed stability, culture, and a sense of identity. He found it amongst African-Americans who embraced him with open arms.
I'm happy for all Americans, and for everybody in the world, really, for this relief from Bush. But most of all, I'm happy for African-Americans. This is their moment. Obama is a cool dude, but as Isaac Newton said, "if I can see farther than others, it's because I'm standing on the shoulders of giants." Obama is where he is because so many African-Americans have selflessly set the table for him.
Fortunately, he's smart enough to know that.
