Annapurna Circuit Day 9 -- Yak Dung

It was a short day today--we climbed to Yak Kharka at 4200 meters. I spent the evening playing a Chinese card game, Big 2, with some new friends. It's so damned cold that we just huddle around the table and keep each other company until bed time, about 8:30.

Now the facilities are bare and the food is expensive. We are above the tree line, so there is no wood for the fire. Instead they use yak dung to fuel the fire. Needless to say, the smoke has an unusual aroma that seeps into our clothes. Lisa, an English teacher in Seoul who introduced us to Big 2, says, "I can't wait to get home and burn all these clothes!"

My clothes are too expensive for that.
