Movies for Smart People

Today was the first day of the Bangkok International Film Festival. I went to see My Winnipeg, a Canadian Art House film.

Essentially, it's an angry and self-indulgent 87 minute poem about the filmmaker's hometown, accompanied by grainy, snowy, shaky black & white footage and a soundtrack that features the infinite chugging of a train on an endless loop, trying to get out of Winnipeg but never succeeding.

I loved it, but Poo would have hated it. Tongue-in-cheek, she calls such films "Movies for Smart People."

"I hate movies where you have to think," she says, "I just want to sit in a movie, eat my popcorn, and be entertained."

OK, Poo, have fun in Don't Mess With the Zohan, or even worse, Bangkok Dangerous. I call those "Movies for Stupid People."
