nothing is forever

The flowers we planted together
Are dying now
A single rose has died already

This morning I watered them
But they did not return my love
I squatted on my heels, painstakingly
As you used to do, effortlessly
And examined them closely
A green bud rippled a vein
Brazenly, begging for rebirth

It, too, must learn
Nothing is forever
