The Face

One of my friends, a very intelligent person, says confidently, "Obama will win." I asked her, "How do you know?" and she respondedly just as confidently, "because of his face."

Another friend, also a woman, calls Obama, "the cutie." Specifically, she says about America:

yeah, it should be a nicer place with the cutie in the white house

My sister says about "the face" aka "the cutie":

"for the first time in my life, I'm really excited about a presidential candidate."

Uh-oh. You're setting yourself up for disappointment.

As for all those lovely ladies: I hope you're right. I hope "the face" wins. There are three things I like about Obama:

1) he's black, and
2) he's intelligent, and
3) (most importantly) he knows what free and open source software is

Some people will wonder why I think #1 is important. In a country that is built upon the genocide of its indigenous peoples and the back-breaking labor of African slaves, the first black president is important symbolically. I would like to be in a world where race is unimportant, and maybe in 100 years, after 8 or 9 presidents who are black, or brown, or yellow, or red, or green, we will get to the point where we choose the best candidate, regardless of race.

Like the current U.S Basketball Olympic team. For the first time, the best 12 players, regardless of race, have been chosen. It just so happens, they're all black.

I feel like Michelle Obama, who said, "for the first time in my life, I'm really proud of my country."
