Gang Signs

Now, I have time on my hands, so today I watched TV.

I happened to catch my favorite Thai actor on a show: Are you smarter than a fifth-grader? (The answer, inevitably, is NO!, otherwise, it wouldn't be an interesting show).

There were a half-dozen cute Thai students, about 7 or 8 years old. Each of them was introduced, and perfunctorily did a wai, and then: threw gang signs!

I mean they were throwing up something like a "C" meaning Crips!!! They are 8 year old Thai kids carefully groomed by their parents, for heavens sake!

Somehow, throwing up gang signs has become the stylish trend among international TV-watching kids. I remember, 15 years ago, we used to suspend kids from school for that. It meant, "if you're a Blood, I will kil you." Not anymore. It's "cool".
