I'm having a great time in Bangalore and learning a lot at the Free and Open Source Software Conference. Today I listened to two scary smart people, the "technology futurist" Simon Phipps and the "new diva" Danese Cooper.
It's nice to know there are people like this working for big corporations, but I'm afraid they're exceptional. Simon talked about the "topology" of social organization, and FOSS being at the "inflection point" of an "exponential growth curve". Mathematics! I might accept Denise's open invitation and give a 5-minute "lightning talk" this evening about Free and Open Source Software in schools.
It's drizzling and cool in Bangalore. It feels like London.
I'm also missing my happy little family in Thailand, even if Poo and I have different parenting philosophies. She thinks I am too soft and liberal with the boys and she thinks some of my ideas are wacky. For example, she thinks it's weird that I am trying to teach Group Theory to Thun, and she does not approve of my weight training program for Jason.
"He's only two years old," she complains, "that's too young for weight-training."
But how will he play for Arsenal if he doesn't start a proper fitness program at a young age?
