Triangles

Thun's test was a big hit at my school. I gave one problem and only K. Tukta had both the Thai language skills and the math skills to solve it:

ABC is an isosceles triangle. Angle A is 80 degrees. BD and CD are bisectors of angles ABC and BCA respectively. Calculate the measure of interior angle D.

It's not a difficult problem, but our Thai students got lost in the the technical vocabulary: isosceles or bisectors.

Anyway, I am so proud of Thun, for even attempting it. He's only eight. When I got home, he was in a spot of trouble, for having displaced 80 Baht (about two dollars). It was his reward for taking the test. He hid it in our mailbox. Poo thinks this is a capital crime, even though it was found. His mother is very strict.

After we had settled the situation and Thun was off to bed, he hugged and kissed me and said, "Good night, Dad, I love you!"

"Me, too," I reciprocated.

"So much!" he answered.

"So much!" I said. That's about how much English our relationship allows. These are the small moments I live for.
